Too often, I opt for the Snickers or the latte when what I really need is a sound bite from God’s Word. Open the Bible to Psalm 119 and take a bite, chew on it for awhile and be refreshed. Or how about the book of Proverbs. Some of those will nail you faster than a fly is attracted to a drop of honey left on the countertop.
Be diligent with your honor. Live true to yourself. Pursue your highest ideals and your best dreams. Honor others; treat people with kindness and integrity. Keep your word. Live your life knowing the small things count. Now that is a step toward the abundant life of John 10:10. When you honor yourself by your thoughts, choices, and actions, you honor God as well. Today is the day to live with honor. Why wait? Done 21 days in a row and it becomes first response.

Yes, I've read THE Book
Hello! My name is Charlotte the XVI and though I prefer to live in barns,
there was not one available. Besides, what a view I have from this deck!!!
I am an invited and treasured guest so please do not disturb me!

Feed me! Feed me! Feed me! If you turn on the deck light after dark, you may watch God’s creative hand in action—me catching delicious morsels {squitoes a la crème, moths marinara, and ufos, unidentified flying objects for spiders} which help me grow.
We have thoroughly enjoyed watching Charlotte the XVI this summer. Rural residents are easily entertained. I have taken enough pictures to make a scrapbook for her but I realize her time is coming to an end. To observe the intricacies of her movement and the wrap up of large ‘dinners’ has been truly delightful. The size of her web is smaller now.It's about time for Wilbur and I to have a good cry.
Her seasons in life are brief compared with ours. Are you making the most of this season in your life?
Just a little question from a friend who is thoroughly convinced of John 10:10(“I have come to bring you life, life to the full.") and who knows most of us need a little nudging every one in awhile.

More Science experiments?
My latest experiment is tepache, a drink made from the peel of the pineapple. Tepache takes 72 hours to ‘brew’. The countdown is on….we are at 72 at this point! Google it and you may be surprised by the details of the how to’s and end product.
I heard about tepache from a good friend from Mexico whom I bought a pineapple from. She asked me if I used the peeling. My surprised look gave away my answer, “For what?” That’s when I learned of Tepache. Tonight is the tepache tasting! Stay tuned!
I've found myself humming, "You've got to live a little, give a little...." The tepache is but a small example of this practice I've adopted to keep my life in balance as to work and play. Every day I think about what I've done that's been a pleasure to me. If nothing comes to mind within about 15 seconds, bells and whistles go off and I make a list of what I wnt to do this week for fun. It helps me keep a smile on my face, a light hearted attitude, and makes me more fun to be around! Try it.

Science experiments.....you are never too young or too old!
I think what we lump into the science category of life points us towards God. From the reasons for the seasons to the the intricacies of the human body I see our creator.
We are getting reading for a visit to San Antonio and I am taking along a bulb vase, used to force bloom a tulip, amaryllis, or another bulb. I haven’t bought the bulb yet but it will be a lesson of creation and patience for my four year old granddaughter and her two year old brother. Hopefully, it will work and they will enjoy a pretty flower in just a few months. Either way it will be a lesson in life….and a botanical cognitive building block!
When we observe nature we come to see the hand of our Creator is still active, not just a thing of the past. And if he’s active in nature, don’t you think He wants to continue his work in you and me? I’ll leave you with the question and you can connect the dots for the answer. Wait until I tell you about my Summer experiment and the one that is brewing as we speak!

This morning's sunrise
I sat down at our kitchen table with a cup of coffee and looked out east. We have a great view of the kneeling nun, a rock outcropping on a near by mountain. The scenic was majestic and reminded me of the saying, "May there be just enough clouds in your life to make a beautiful sunset." The prettiest clouds were the ones where the sun was shining through. The difficulties in which we allow God to shine through will be the ones which will impact and draw others to Him. Remember the closer you stand to the light the greater the illumination.

It's green chile time
Things that smell yummy.....coffee...baking bread....and green chile roastin'! Here's a simple recipe that's delicious:
Baked Chiles Rellenos
6 eggs separated
1tbsp. of flour
1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp pepper
roasted, peeled, seeded Hatch green chile
1/2 lb. of cheese, cheddar or jack, sliced
Beat egg whites until stiff. Mix flour, salt, and pepper with egg yolks; then fold in beaten egg whites and pour half of this mixture into a greased 2x9x13 baking dish. Next slit each chile lengthwise down one side and lay flat over egg batter and then cover with cheese slices. Pour rest of egg mixture over cheese.Bake 25 min. in a 325 oven. Cut in 3-inch squares and serve with salsa if desired. Serves 4.
We put 20 pounds in the freezer this weekend.

A Deep Plowin'
Good morning! July has been a busy one but we can now say adios to it.
I am plowing my way through Philip Yancey's Reaching for the invisible God. One of the thoughts he share in the book is that he has become more comfortable with the mysteries of life—the questions that we don't have the answers to than those that are spelled out clearly. He also contends that our relationship with God will always have an element of doubt. I think this is true of evey relationship....the last child to be picked up frpm soccer practice asking , "When is my Dad going to get here?" They usually don't say I wonder if he is coming at all but there is doubt expressed nonetheless.

I had a great time out at the Christian Center yesterday. Our western landscape is greening up nicely so the drive out was beautiful. Jesse Liles was preaching and that topped it off for me.
